Government Arts College Shahera was established in 2008. The college was started in a school building of Shri. S.J. Dave High School, Shahera and shifted to its present premises of Kankari village in 2013. It was affiliated to Gujarat University, Ahmadabad till academic year 2015-2016. But at present the college is under the affiliation of newly established university of Panchmahal namely Shri Govind Guru University, Godhra. Our college is located between Godhra and Lunawada of Panchmahal district. It is 20 kms far from Godhara and 24 kms away from Lunawada.

The college has 15 acres land for all over development of the institution. The college building is constructed on 4961.75 sq.mtrs. It is surrounded by garden with lush greenery giving serene and peaceful atmosphere with fresh air, a playground for games like cricket, volley ball, kho-kho, kabbadi, badminton etc, 400 mts. athletic track, small pond for water harvesting , field of maize and wheat, parking area for staff and students. The college building possesses a principal office, separate faculty rooms with computers, air conditioned administrative office, 4 class rooms with LCD projectors, air conditioned conference room with LCD projector, auditorium with seating capacity of 350 students to function various programs like seminars
,workshops, meetings, cultural activities etc. , a library with a seating capacity of 50 students., a language lab to help students in the field of language acquisition and application of soft skills, a computer lab with internet connection , a psychology lab, a sports’ room, an N.S.S. room ,a girls' room, a meditation hall, a canteen, NAMO Wi-Fi campus (free for students and staff), CCTV campus, a solar system, R.O plants with water coolers, washrooms for staff and students and store room.

Our college is one of the first government arts colleges that has been established in the rural area of Panchmahal district. Most of the students come from a variety of socio-economic groups like OBCs, SCs, STs, minority and poor people from open category. They are benefited with various government scholarships by the college. So it has become a boon for the educational aspirants of the area.

The first thing about our college is that there is no government college around 20 kms in this area. Government Arts College, Shahera is the only college in this area that provides the eight core subjects of arts to the students. More than 50% of the teaching faculty is having Ph.D degree which is also a distinctive identity of the college. More than 75% students belong to the reserved categories. Our college runs income generating courses under the grant of RUSA like document assistant course for boys and tailoring course for girls. Our college also completes the winter army training of hundred hours successfully. All these things can be possible due to the college milieu. The distinct quality of our college is that our college has a tilling land in the campus where we till grain and corn on this land. This grain is used in various college practices so that students can have a proper nutritional meal. The students come from very poor families, so they feel very happy during any course because they will be given a good meal. For farming also, the college has its own pond and other water resources. The college hires a farmer who works on this land and also supports his family by these very grain and corn. The principal provides rice to the students at his own expenses. This lunch is cooked and served by college’s non-teaching staff. It gets clear from the above mentioned sources that the college does not have to be dependent upon any outer source for this farming.
The college is quite fortunate in getting qualified and experienced teachers. On the same note the college could not has been developed as it is without the stable leadership of the principal.The college has set example by working enormously for the students of reserved categories of tribal area. The peaceful milieu of the college feeds and motivates reading. A complete growth of the student’s is ensured by organizing the Finishing School. Students are made good citizens by the training of Defense. The facility of free Wi-Fi and computer lab makes them technically competent in the contemporary world. To benefit the local community extension activities like Women’s self defense, Swachh Bharat etc. are done. To meet the demand of the age and to keep transparency, the college uses GEM and e-tendering to purchase. The college has taken an advance step in the world of information and technology by launching the college app for students and staff.
